Two 4WDs were stuck in the mud in Parau, West Auckland today and one was set to spend its third night stranded.

A 4WD got stuck in Big Muddy Creek, near Cavern Point, on Monday.

When its owners called for help, a second 4WD failed in its rescue mission and became stuck as well.

Today more reinforcements were called in and a team of people took six hours to free the second vehicle.

Deep wheel marks were left in the soft, muddy ground and huge splatters of mud could be seen on the side of a yellow 4WD.

As the tide started to come in again at 6pm, the first stuck vehicle hadn't even begun to be freed from its muddy prison and it looked set to spent a third night in the mud.

I live out that way and know how soft that mud is, ive even heard of people walking on it and sinking in and getting stuck on foot to the point where they cant get out. Really not an ideal place to drive the 4x4s on those inner harbour beaches

Yep, silt with silk like consistency. Terrible ****, don't know why'd you'd even want to take your 4x4 in it.

There are some very "special" people getting around in 4WD's that really have no idea what a 4WD can or can't do.
It happens up here too kinda regularly, idiots go driving onto the sandy muddy slop at low tide and get stuck, then the tide comes in and the 4wd goes under water
The last one I remember was a navara and a hilux from memory, bogged on the sandbar out the front of the casino.

Pic attached just for a laugh

As a bloke said to me 20 years ago after he pulled my hilux out of the drink just before the tide come in what were you doing out there just because you can drive out there doesn't mean you should. Why 4wd can be dangerous at times as you can drive yourself into situations you'll never get out of. nothing worse than being bogged to the axles with nothing to winch off and very little recovery gear. Why its best to go play 4wd with a couple of trucks we still have managed to get all 3 trucks bogged to the axles more than once. I once went out for the day got bogged in the first hole that was about 300m from the road and spent the next 6 hours digging out

Recently there was some idiot on Muriwai beach with his Hilux parked below the high tide mark. He was warned but ignored it cause he knew his ****. Anyway, long story short his brand new Hilux is now totally fucked. Guy at work even got it on video on his phone when the tide rolled it over :D
