I see some of the aftermarket aerials are been advertised as suiting cars with gps.

so does the vf with gps use the radio aerial for its gps?

Yes.

There is one on ebay that a few of us have and they work great.
They are sold by the Original Parts Group I think.

Do a search on here too and they will come up.

I have the Walkinshaw version, and it works well.

Got it for about $25 delivered off eBay.

^ What's involved in fitting it?
Did it improve your radio reception at all?
Ours isn't as good as it could be IMHO.

Hey Forg;

+1 for the Walkinshaw unit, no loss of reception for the radio, and Sat Nav works a treat. Just unscrew the old 1 off, and the new 1 comes with an internal adaptor screw to fit it. I keep my old long 1 in the boot for if/when someone pinches the new 1.

I got the short aerial off eBay for VF1. Mate got the Walkinshaw version. extra $1 for the exact same product. Has all the same markings on it and everything.
If you have SatNav i think you need to order the one that enables it..
Aerial works well. Obviously not as powerful as the stock one and can have patches where there is little reception in areas which can be annoying but not a deal breaker.. looks great though

My understanding from another post is that the base controls the GPS reception and the aerial controls the radio reception. The reason for the two different aerials is that the non-GPS base is narrower, and the GPS aerial would look strange if fitted to the narrower base. You can see from the picture above that the GPS base/aerial looks nice and integrated.

hi guys,

I have used the little stubby aerial and found i had static which could just be my location.

I have however found another aerial which works great and looks better than the standard long aerial. Its off the new Holden Cruze SRI which uses the same base (with gps) but has a shorted aerial. I purchased mine of a wrecker on ebay.

Its an original holden item and looks better than the long commodore unit.
