i think youll find those are torx bolts and youll round them off if you use a socket.

edit* i could be wrong though.

Don't wish to keep this on-going however I have attached a photo of the retaining bolt on my VZ Alternator. It certainly doesn't look like a Torx bolt to me. Make up your own mind(s). Good luck.

Mine exactly the same with the retaining bolt off your alternator Ben.so its a hex headed bolt? I went to Super Cheap to buy a socket and the staff in the shop confused me.hahah but i think the pictures wil help them to get me the tools.thanks

I used a 7mm socket but all the bolts were too tight and the socket slipped.
Then used a ring spanner with the same result.
Ended up using two nuts and tightening against each other and successfully removed the top bolt and front lower bolt but couldn't budge the lower rear bolt.
However, if you rotate the alternator forward about 100 degrees it is possible to get it off without removing the rear bolt.
