Hello

I have just blown my sub. I need help in finding what went wrong and what i need to fix the problem.
My sub was a:

- Kicker 12" CVR12 2 Ohm Sub im pretty sure its 450W RMS

AMP is:

- Alpine MRX-M50 Mono amp, 500W RMS 2 ohm

I think its probs because my Sub is 450W RMS and my mono apm provides 500W RMS to 2ohm subs. Am i right??

What is the solution?a Kicker 12" 500W RMS 2 ohm sub??

thanks

That sub and amp will run with each other without any worries.

That sub could probably handle 600rms @ 2 ohm with no dramas.

For the money your paying though there are better options out there.

I would recommended you just save your money and get a bass setup in excess of $1500+

Better to get the good stuff straight away then upgrade later on and go through the hassle of selling your old gear.

I didn't read the question properly...

To answer your question you probably had the gain set to high and the excessive heat has cooked the coil.

Like I said that sub should be able to handle 600rms.

thanks brah, so how do i know what the gain should be at for this to never happen again??

I am going to buy a much better sub anyways, something thats still 12" but much more RMS to stay on the safe side, cause i blast it everyday

an you recommend any brands that are good quality and ok price for a 12"

The gain setting is dependent on the headunit.

Some H/U only needs the gain to be set at 20%. Mine (A shitty sony xplod) needs to be at 55%.

A good way to tune the sub is have the Headunit volume at say 85% - 90% then slowly turn the gain up until it is as loud as the sub can handle.

You will know when the gain is up to high because the sub won't get any louder and sound crappy. Once it is at this stage back it off just a little bit until it sounds loud and clean.

I personally think you can't go wrong with brand new kicker subs. They are just a bit pricey.

I'm honestly not to sure what you should get.

If your worried that the amp is over powering the sub then you should get a CVR 15inch with is rated for 500rms @ 2ohms which will match the amp perfectly.
