I think I'm probably going to have get a separate router for the VPN.

The Asus DSL-AC68U should do the job for you.

Once you go over to NBN you can stull use it and set one of the LAN ports to a WAN port and off you go.

It's just not the NBN that was intended, fraudband some call it. That said VDSL is more capable than it gets credit, I pull 120/40 through mine. I would love fibre one day though, for its glassy latency

What's your budget NAAF? You should only need one unit

Been running one of those for a few years. Not a bad bit of kit. Does need a bit of knowledge to set up but that is readily available.

It's a good bit of kit, bit long in the tooth features and technology wise though. For that money or less you can get something with later protocol support, mesh and smarter WiFi

If you are somewhat old school and still want a home phone, you need to keep the NBN (VDSL) provider's modem in the mix. That's becuase your NBN provider wont give you the VOIP login details to enter into your new shiny VDSL modem/router...

These lazy NBN providers wont update their VDSL modem/routers which have a bunch of known security vulnerabilities within their firmware. They are so slack they just refuse to acknowldege there is a problem and fail to release a firmware update... I hate the fcukers

I know I need to keep the Optus modem as we have a land line for my partners business. Just need to set up a router to connect everything else.
