Hey guys sorry if this topic is common but my battery light has been on for a while,
The car would run for ever unless I left it for 4 or 5 days in which the battery died, but if I use it everyday it would have no issues,
So I changed the battery and alternator and still the battery light is there,
I have noticed that under hard acceleration the light goes off .
This is on a 1998 v6 executive,
The battery terminals look bunked up could this be an issue?
Cheers guys
Rob

Clean the terminals. Also, check the yellow wire coming out of the back of the alternator to see if it is discoloured or burnt looking.

Just hot water, boil the kettle and pour it over the terminals.

Clean all connections, not just the battery's. Is the Alt's connection tight and plugged in securely? Is the loom properly grounded to the engine?
When idling, how many volts do you see across the battery terminals?
You should see at least 13. This will tell you, regardless of the light on the dash, if your alternator is making any charge.
If any connections are dirty/corroded/poor, this will create resistance and lower the voltage you see, and may be the cause of the dash light.

Wondering.. Perhaps do a fault check at the OBD. I wonder if there could be another reason why the battery symbol is illuminated.

1. you may need to change the main battery lead from alternator to battery. These cables suffer badly from heat and corrosion and consequently causes voltage drop.
2. If your light is on and gradually going off when you rev engine I would say your alternator has a phase out. Alternator will need replacing.
3. Before you change the alternator you MUST CHECK the battery to alternator lead. I would replace it anyway as this is a common problem on VT Commodore.
I didnt post a reply to try and sell you something as we are here to assist if we can ..WITH NO CONDITIONS .. but If you need an alternator check out our store.
Feel free to ask if you have any further questions.
