Hey guys,
We are trying to paint a dash fascia for a VX.
We sanded the fascia with a low grit paper to roughen it up, applied the primer no problem.
Started spraying the black and its going grey in some sections, we waited for it to dry and sanded it back and tryed again only for it to go grey in other areas.

Whats causing this and can we just sand it back afterwards with some high grit wet-dry to reveal the black?

Maybe a combination of surface temp, paint temp and ambient temperature being too low.

Could be, latest development though, it seems a cut and polish is removing the grey and revealling the black however what i have noticed is that the orange peeling effect is removed with the cut and polish and an ass load of buffing, just wondering if i would be able to just sand it with some 2000 grit wet/dry to do the same thing and then just re-polish it afterwards?

I will be applying a clear coat afterwards so what do you reckon i should do?
i was thinking ill polish it up to get it black and shiny the just prepwash and apply the clear...does this sound right?

After a quick cut and polish I would leave it for a day or three to see what comes of it, may save alot of waist of time/clear paint etc.

I would of just degressed it leve it in the sun for a while and give it a few coats of paint. All the sanding primeing etc will just make it be thick and peely rough finish...

True that, should be no need to sand plastic unless it is already painted.
plastic primer and paint is all thats usually needed after a wash down prep. I usually just use a thinners soaked rag.
Wipe on wipe off to remove any tar from cigarettes or any grease etc.
