G'day guys,

My dads got a really old hydraulic walker jack that's buggered. If you lift it up with your hand and pump it will sometimes work, But rarely. We've tried putting more fluid in it, but it's still no good. Does anyone know a place in Melbourne we can take it to get it fixed? It's a really good jack when it works. It's really big and nice and low.

Hope this is in the right section lol.

New Jacks, either bottle or floor are so cheap these days the price of repair is really more effort than buying a new one.

Have you bled the air out of it?

If so seals are probably gone in the ram. You can pull it appart and put seals in it you can take it to a hydraulics place and they can match seals up to it.
depending on how bad the shaft is worn or scored and the bore of the ram it may not be worth fixing.

I think Sabbath' is right, it would probably be cheaper to buy a new one..........

But if you're keen to get it overhauled, there was a workshop in Sydney Rd. Coburg, near the Gaffney St. intersection, that specialised in rebuilding workshop jacks.

Its been years since I've been there, so cant guarantee they're still there.

Thanks guys,

Might try bleeding it, Check out the ram or possibly hunt down this shop. Not looking to spend a **** load on it. Like Sabbath said, it's probably cheaper to get a new one. But if I can get it fixed for cheaper it would be worth it. Like I said, It's a bloody good jack.

Disagree there. If it was a good jack, it wouldnt be busted.

Do the right thing and not the cheap-as thing, get va proper new jack.
Would you really wanna compromise ya safety/life for 'the cheapest solution'?

It wasn't a cheap jack, it's just old really old. Going under a car with any jack is compromising your safety. That's why axle stands were invented.
