Reading through this thread made me think, I see most of these cars on a regular basis.

Although I'm from SA so it it isnt that suprising.

"SA the state were clunkers go to eventually die"

This post made me think a bit. Other states have had tougher registration laws and mandatory inspections for years, which probably helped to put a lot of old clunkers off the road, whereas SA doesn't have them, so the heaps remain on the roads.

i'm nearly of the same vintage as yourself calaber,i grew up on a diet of hr's, eh's, hq's-the worst holden ever built for rust, its like they started to rust from the factory!lol, 70's falcons were'nt far behind, cheap petrol and rego though i remember my old man doing his block as we drove past a servo in the 70's, petrol went up to 12cpl from 10cpl, what an outrage!!,despite being dinosaurs these days compared to what we drive now i still miss them on the roads today and miss owning them too, their simplicity in design and ease of repair will never again be matched! as for my contributiuon to what you dont see anymore- how about the leyland p76,most of them spent their early mths/years/? sitting in the paddock behind the factory in various states of completion because of the union probs that leyland had and heres a howler- the nissan cedric!! the neighbour had one, took me years to figure out what the bloody thing was!

I sympathise with your father , remember just after i bought my HQ Statesman ,the price of petrol went up to 27 cents per litre lol. AS for the P76 i remember its claim to fame was that you could carry a 44 gallon drum in the boot .My neighbour had a blue Targa Floria .They did have a nice sounding V8 with the right system . MY wifes car was one of the early Sigmas made by Chrysler.

Yesterday, I saw an immaculate Triumph TR7 go past my house. They didn't sell all that many when they were new and they rusted like no other car this side of an Alfasud, but this bloke still drove an immaculate example. It must be just about the only one left in NSW.

There's actually a few of the old Holden Cruze's getting around Bundaberg, I see them on a fairly regular basis.

Ford KA....haven't seen one of those in at least 3 years...were they even really all that popular in the first place?
