Whats your opinion guys... Which do you think is better for a V6 Ecotec?

How often do you do a service. Mobile 1 is good oil full synthetic but expensive and probably unnecessary if changing every 5000 km. penrite and nulon arepretty good and so is anglomoil.

Some dealers use magnatec when they do services but I think you could do better for that price

Just one experience, when using magnatec 10w/40 in my old v6 commy, it was very ticky in the top end. Switched to Penrite hpr5 and it was much quieter...

I now run full synthetic shell helix ultra 5w/40 in my supercharged 6 vx, and haven't had a lick of trouble, although it may be overkill when it's changed every 5,000km...

Both sound like expensive overkill to me.

VX SS (Original owner).
I have been using Magnatec in my VX SS for the past 5 years or so with no issues, doesn't seem any different to the Mobil or Valvoline oils that some dealers used in it when I used to get it dealer serviced when it was new. As a side note we have a late model Mazda 3 and a Subaru Imprezza in the family both dealer serviced and they use Magnatec when they go in for service.

I use mobil 1 5W-50 in my VS ecotec. I change it every 5000 km, which is around the time the oil just starts to go dark and lose its clean look... I give the engine a caning a lot of the time with high revs etc, so I run the best oil I can and change it often.. The engine has around 190,000 on it now and still has good compression and oil pressure readings.. I was using penrite 15W-60 semi synthetic oil at one stage, but I kept noticing a slight ticking noise at idle after a hard run.. Mobil 1= no more ticking.

I've used Magnatec 10-40 for many years in VK, VS, VY and also my Daughters VT. I use Magnatec 5-30 now in my VE. I have no issues at all with it.

I use 10/40 Valvolene semi synthetic. 470,000km quiet as a mouse tells me it must be ok.Since 400k I reduced the interval between changes from 10k to 7.5k. I reckon that chice of filters filters (genuine) has probably been more important than my choice of oil.

2015 Subaru Forester, XR6 turbo ute.
Valvoline XLD 20w50. Used it for years on the older cars(including 2 3.8s) No issues at all. Synthetic is an overkill on this type of engine IMHO.

mobil 1 10w30 changed at 10,000km
at 200,000km I changed to mobil 1 10w30 high mileage
now 250,000km motor is still like new, burns a little over 1/2 a litre between services
