VS Statesman
has this happened to you ? I bought myself another statesman last week VQ 5ltr , the brake disc's needed machining so I took it to a brake specialist , they told me it would be ready by 5 pm so at ten to five Im walking up to get my car when it drives past me , I noticed 2 young lads in it, the guy in the passenger seat is putting my things back on the dash , hmmmm , I wounder how they how fell of the dash and why it took 2 people to test drive it, so I did the only thing that seemed right at the time , I asked the guy that was driving my car " what does go like when you give it to it " well he looked at me stuttered abit then told me that the brakes were fine now , the cheeky prick, I felt like reaching across that counter and smacking him 1, they must have known I was pissed off from the steam comming out my ears and Knocked $30 of the price they quoted me. If your in mount Gambier and your brakes need looking at DON'T go to GWB. they might do the job alright, but if there gunna stuff around with ride it doesn't matter how good the job is done.

Bastards, I always try and take my car across the road from work, that way I can see it if it goes anywhere.

If not I look at the trip meeter, I leave it on something other then 0. 104 or anything random. For example today I got my headunit Installed and they'd driven it 3k's. Now surely thats more then necessary.

i know how you feel, going back a few years ago i had a phase 2 falcon GTHO,it was blue printed motor ,extractors, solid lifters, different cam ,etci used to take it in about once every 3 months to get it dyno tuned, even then i used to say to the guy that owned it ,i dont want you or anyone else taking it for a street test,do it on the dyno please nowhere else, anyway about 3 oclock in the afternoon i was about 20 k,s from where the car was being dyno tuned and what flashes up the other side of the road but my car with the manager of the dyno place and his chick sitting perched up in my car heading for home, when i got back to the dyno place i was seething mad,i rolled up to the counter where the kid that was working there put my keys on the counter and then started rolling out the account for the dyno tune,i just picked up my keys and said to the kid, tell your boss to ring me at work if he wants paid for this and we"ll discuss how much i am going to charge him per kilometre for the illegal use of a customers car, never heard from him and i never went back there again,if i take my car anywhere i always tell them i dont need anyone to test drive the car unless it really needs it and i always tell them what the speedo reading is.ass holes

most cases when you put your car in for work they will test drive it. obviously if they're going out for lunch, they can kill 2 birds with one stone.

if you told them specifically not to test drive it, if there's excessive kms on the odo, or if they've been thrashing it you can be upset :)

Mine gets driven around the block, literally. The workshop is only four doors down so its easy to keep tabs on. I dont think my mechanic is going to get too excited over my ride as he owns a hot yellow GTO.

Yep, just go to some mechanic who looks older then Santa Claus and works by himself and you will be right.
That's why I do all the work myself, as for my supension blokes and Transmission I can trust them as I have been going to them for years. But that **** goes on.

Cheers,
Jim

My mate was telling me last night about this, I brought up the topic, and he mentioned that when he got a coolant hose replaced on his car - they drove it a few km's.

He just said, the hose has been pressure tested, you've installed it properly, whats the need to drive it.

It's a bit dodgy. Can always get a portable gprs and slip it in the car, measures speed and distance etc doesn't it?

Would be good to get them in trouble.

Yeah

Its terrable when you have a nice ride , and some one thinks they can / or have the right to take it for a so called test run ....

My VL was a fantastic ride until a P-plater , T-boned it from the left side , sure it was repaired , but was never the same after that !
That car was so Violated by that accident :flame:

A friend of mine got a new Ford , on the way home he saw a stranger driving it down the road ? , he called the shop , they said no one was driving it , so he called the cops , and reported his car stolen ....

Yep , seems the head mechanic like the new car so much , he decided to take it home with him for the night [ I think they call that "company car" ] , watch out for weekends , never leave it anywhere over the week end ..
:hit:

Happens way too often :

Sorry : Pet peeve

I hate it when people lean on your car , treat it like a garden lounge ...

Had a V8 Holden HX , nice car , prem front , mags , and one day after shoping , came back to my car to find a woman sitting on my bonnet ....
Walked up to her , said , nice day , is that your car , she said no , I said , do you think the owner minds you sitting there , she said she didn't give a F>>> , and thats when I lost it , grabed her , and dragged her of the bonnet , and said that the owner sure as hell gives a F... :ranting:

OK not my best moment , but I really "hate" people like that !

No respect I tells you , no rspect ! :ranting:

yep get a GPS ($200-300 for a cheap one) and hide it under the spare tyre or under a seat, that way you can see the kms, and even follow the track to see where he has exactly been to see if you can discover some burnout marks on the road! may be a bit expensive but its peace of mind
