VZ Adventra
VZ Adventra with alloytec V6 (and probably every AWD variant) has the Sump Drain plug on the drivers side of Oil Pan.
It looks like the sump for the front diff, because the front driveshaft is so close, but I poured clean oil in the filter housing, and it poured straight outta this hole. :)
Cheers.

hold the up and down buttons next to the trip computer as you turn on the ignition, this should give you an option to reset the service reminder? if i remember correctly

Just change the filter before dropping the oil. This lets the shitty stuff run to the bottom of the old oil and not have to run into the new oil.

I found the illustrative photo showing the position of the drop-in oil filter very, very educational. Not to sound stupid after years pottering about filthy conventional V6s, but I was wondering why the filter wasn't visible peering around the sides of the engine cowling/cover. Ah, so! This is not a conventional steel filter. So, the cowling is removed to service the engine and access the filter, plugs, injectors and what not.. I've only ever used the steel RYCO cartridge style filters on my old Lexcen V6 wagon, changing the oil every 6,000km (country/freeway driving: at trade-over, it was up to 327,000km with not a skerrick of burnt oil) and putting in Penrite HPR30. This car though, is under warranty and they don't want me doing the oil change or much else <sob, sniffle...> The techie said Penrite oil isn't used at all in the Alloytec, but did not elaborate ... "...needs thin oil", or something. Castrol??

Thanks for the photo.

You can use ANY oil so long as it complies with GM specifications - found in your Owner Handbook. Alloytec engines are very particular in regard to type and rating of oil used. Failing to perform regular oil changes will quickly stuff-up your engine. What are regular oil changes ? In accordance with Owner's Handbook or as most people do - every 6 months. Don't forget to ALWAYS put a new oil filter on when replacing with NEW oil. To do otherwise is stupid and a waste of money.

does the ve 6L v8 have the same cartridge setup or the old style oil filter?

All V8's use spin on style filters. All V6 motors from VZ onwards use this cartridge style.

2004 VY - SV8 (series II)
Hi all,

Done oil changes before - good times once you find the motivation - which is not too hard when you save on the labour and know for sure you have done a top job!

Anyway - been reading the forums and are are little bit confused as I am new to holdens.

I have a VY SV8 Commodore (Series II) and I am not sure about the filter change. As per the VZ posts the filter is in the engine bay by the rocker covers and not under the car - is this the same case for the VY or am I back to the "old School" and are getting under the car to find the filter like most other people?

Many thanks,

Blair
