Mine works, only after breaking it on a low hanging branch and forking out for a new one + labour....they're a pain in the ass to remove/install.

I'm thinking I'll disconnect it from the stereo before I replace it, as I don't listen to the radio (just MP3s and stuff). I've seen a video on replacing it. I'd rather drop the gearbox out again than do that

We've had three commodores that have never done it - VT, VX, VY. The only one that did was my old VS funnily enough. I've seen a few VT-VYs that have it sticking out about 20cm like mine so I figured it was common.

It happens when theres a bend in the metal, then the motor keeps winding it down then strips it raw so it can't wind any lower.
