A few weeks ago, I posted a thread about a VN Calais I had seen loaded onto a truck at the wreckers after it had been squashed and was about to head off to the metal recyclers. I commented that many Calais trim parts were still on the car in good condition and it seemed a shame that they were just going to be destroyed.

Well, after yesterday, I have to ask what a complete VS Acclaim is worth to a wrecker. Same wrecker, same truck, but this time the VS was almost complete. All I could see that had been removed was the bonnet, radiator, head and tail-lights. Everything else was still in the car, including what looked like clean doors (before they were squashed), boot lid, full suspension, motor and trans, and interior. Being an Acclaim, it still had the factory airbag and steering wheel fitted. The ignition key was even still in the lock.

I would have thought a VS would still be worth something for parts. There are often requests for parts for VR/VS models on this forum and I know that good airbags are still worth quite a bit. Apparently not, as far as this wrecker is concerned.

The wrecker I was at today was over loaded with cars and have to get them out. Once the motor and trans is out it's squish time. He said he has over 600 cars in the lot (6 acres). They have cars on top of cars.

The VR's are hitting the wall big time now with most of them getting towards 250,000 - 300,000 kms.

Once they have the good bits out they go...

It's a crying shame. I suppose it's economics, they generate more income with the newer model cars and perhaps focus on those. Squished Calais ~ it's time to grieve.

Yeah, the wrecker I go to has told us that she's bought a VS for as little as $300. I guess people are kind of forced into selling their wrecks because they don't want them on their property.

LOL - VN's are just about finished as are VP's. Now it's VR and VS's to fill the wreckers

In the last 2 weeks I've been offered two sets of mint doors for VN's for free. You cant give that stuff away (it's all on the way to China now)
