VE SV6
2007 Manual VE SV6. Got a Contact dealer code on the dash that won't go away, it also disables my fuel gauge which is a fairly large inconvenience..

Tried scanning it with a basic OBD, and nothing appeared. It then randomly came up with oil pressure sensor once, so I bought a new one and replaced it. After putting it in, the contact dealer code on the dash was still present however i could not clear the code as nothing appears in the OBD. I also tried disconnecting the battery which did not resolve it.

I also had an exhaust leak on the passenger side cat which was affecting fuel trim, but has since been resolved by tightening the exhaust. I have been informed by my friends that I may require Tech2 tool (And that the issue may not be ECU side). Does anyone have any suggestions on what I could do?

contact dealer codes are stored in the instrument cluster
as your fuel gauge is not working
i would think that is the cause
not a symptom

It turns off the fuel gauge with the code on the dash. The gauge does work, as if you clear codes, (even if none are present), the fuel level will come back for 5 seconds until it turns off again when the contact dealer code returns.

Contact dealer code can come up for various reasons from a failed non important sensor like the sun sensor and a faulty gauge to a faulty fan speed resistor.
Yes you need a tech 2 to read and see what is actually causing the code.

That is possibly indicating your Fuel Sender is faulty, (assuming it drives normally when the fault is displayed)
Have you had the Tank unit replaced (inc the fuel Sender?) if not,
I would say the Sender is slowly failing.

I had the same exact thing, (created a thread about this)
After I replaced the complete Tank unit twice [inc Sender], and when the fuel got down to approx. 3/4 and a 1/4,
The Fuel gauge would drop to Empty, and display Contact Dealer with a X on the dash,
after approx., 5k's and a bit of rough roads and cornering,
the fuel gauge would fix itself up, and the fault would disappear on the Dash,
I scanned the car and it was saying the Fuel Sender Fault,
That was when I cut a hole in the floor pan to replace the sender with the Original OEM sender I had.
the rest is history.

That said, get it scanned and see what DTC its logged.

Where are you located in Melbourne ?
If your close to me, I will scan it for you, and see what DTC its logged,
And will check the Sender resistance compared to the amount of fuel onboard.
