Just purchased a VE Omega and the good lady of the house purchased a dash mat for the car (one from Super Auto Cheap made by SCA)it seems to have a hardish backing and from reading various sites that sell dash mats they go on about their mats not being a hard backing,so they absorb moisture and so on.

Should I put this one on and be done with it as it will do the job of protecting the dash from the sun etc or discreetly return it and buy one of these u beaut ones.

Thanks.

I wouldn't worry about a dash mat unless you like the aesthetics the Matt brings to your interior.
Your car has being designed to survive Australia's climate and dash mats are not an necessity, "303 protectant" should protect your interior plastics for years to come..

Window sun shades work well at reducing heat also and you don't have to have a hairy dash.
Who likes a "hairy dash" these days

I've got a SCA and always remove it to clean the dash and can't remember the last time I seen my dash hairy.

You sure your not shaving your balls in your car???

The biggest plus in my book is the lack of glare once a carpet mat is fitted.

If the only reason you want to fit it is to protect the dash from the sun, there's no real need. If you're worried about it, a decent trim dressing will block UV very effectively, while leaving a perfectly matte finish and no greasiness. The dash material is much improved in the VEs from previous models and isn't as susceptible to UV, even if left bare. I have seen some dash mats cause damage when they overheat and the backing or adhesive can melt and etch into the dash. Can't say it's all of them - also couldn't tell you which ones as I have not looked into them. Personally, not a fan.

No glare from VE dashes.
