Hi Guys,
On my vs series II calais when i go to slow down and change from Drive to 3rd i get this vibration
it seems to be from 100kms to about 75 kms on de-acceleration
I am thinking it might be a tail shaft problem
driving it normally it doesnt show any vibrations until you slow down
All ideas or Experience appreciated

If you can drive along at 70 in 4th with no vibration then select 3rd and accelerate to 100-120 with vibration the whole time in 3rd it will be a cracked rubber gearbox mount. New ones from Holden are about 50 bucks. Try that test. I've got a feeling alot of Commodores have that problem but most people just don't notice

If that don't work check the centre bearing on the tailshaft, it could be loose or stuffed, but is generally noticed on acceleration not slowing down

Like In my car.

I had a sneaking suspicion that it was either engine or gearbox mounts.
If left untreated, would it then stuff the tailshaft unijoint?

Eventually it will hasten a drivertrain problem but its all a balance between available dollars and how long you will keep the car. Its easy to check - just slide under the car and grab the back of the transmission where the tailshaft enters it and try and move sideways and up....if it moves more than a whisker then it needs replacing...especially if its covered in oil.

I like the above post the most, get under and look, areas to check would be tailshaft (for movement etc, etc) also check the uni's while your there and have a look at the engine mounts too just incase.

Well i finally got under the car for a look at this problem as i had to look at something else as well
Well i found the front Uni Joint stuffed on the drive shaft
I had the suspected the drive shaft might have been the problem
So its getting re-built on Friday

vs commodore V6 S2 and a BA XR6T
glad u found the problem

also another thing with these cars (vn-vs) is the gearbox mount bolts tend to work themselves loose...mainly on the vn nd vp (haven't had a prob on any vr/vs yet)
