dtc 0163 internal sdm fault?

hi,
I have a airbag light on my car and have used my tech 2 that I just bought to read the code and have come up with code 163 internal sdm fault. has anyone got any ideas on what it might be?

Theres no actual testing instructions for the SDM that I can find.. The workshop manual says "SDM internal failure - Replace SDM with a new SDM of the correct configuration".. There is a fuse that supplies power to the SDM, the manual says its fuse 26 under the dash, check that too.
