ive read a lot of threads with discussion on code 31 for a vt. all of the responses so far have advised that code 31 is for theft deterent or bcm related. i had this code myself, took it to holden and all and they said it was just to do with the theft deterrent, especially being a clubsport with the ISS feature. (cough BULLSHIT! BULLSHIT! cough).
turns out, (if others havent solved this error code either) code 31 can ALSO be an abs code relating to the speed sensors too. in my case i crawled under the car to the rear of the gearbox where the speed sensor is. the speed sensor has a magnet on it which reads off the spinning wheel thingy. my magnet had a big wad of metal filings or something, magnetically sticking, decreasing the gap between the magnet and the wheel. i simply scraped that stuff off with a small electrical screwdriver, reset the codes, and now code 31 is gone.
cant believe holdens b.s for such an easy fix. could have made a customer really happy for free pretty much. so slack

ABS error codes are a completely different set of codes to the ECU codes. Its the same with the SRS airbag system, it has its own set of error codes too. ECU error code 31 - theft deterrent, is a completely different code to error code 31 for the ABS which means -rear right wheel speed sensor-faulty signal.

yeah, i think a lot of people confuse the two codes tho. holden was way off. it fixed it for me anyway. even though it wasnt right wheel, they must be connected in some way to the gearbox's speed sensor. i didnt touch the rear speed sensors at all.
i had code 31 when i papercliped terminal 5 +6 on the plug. does that give ecu or abs codes?

Bridging terminals 5 and 6 will give you the ECU codes, bridging terminals 5 and 12 will flash up the ABS codes on the ABS dashlight.

Heres a list of ABS/ETC error codes for VT to VY, but these codes can only be flashed up by bridging the terminals on VT and VX models, for other models, you will need a suitable scantool to read these codes.

Code 12= Start up code/ system ok.
Code 21= Front right wheel speed sensor faulty signal.
Code 23= Front right wheel speed sensor short or open circuit.
Code 25= Front left wheel speed sensor faulty signal.
Code 27= Front left wheel speed sensor short or open circuit.
Code 28= Front wheel speed sensor frequency incorrect.
Code 31= Rear right wheel speed sensor faulty signal.
Code 33= Rear right wheel speed sensor short or open circuit.
Code 35= Rear left wheel speed sensor faulty signal.
Code 37= Rear left wheel speed sensor short or open circuit.
Code 41= Front right inlet valve solenoid.
Code 42= Front right outlet valve solenoid.
Code 45= Front left inlet valve solenoid.
Code 46= Front left outlet valve solenoid.
Code 47= Priming valve solenoid.
Code 48= Switching valve solenoid.
Code 51= Rear right inlet valve solenoid.
Code 52= Rear right outlet valve solenoid.
Code 55= Rear axle inlet valve solenoid/Rear left inlet valve solenoid.
Code 56= Rear Rear axle outlet valve solenoid/Rear left outlet valve solenoid.
Code 61= Pump motor or relay faulty.
Code 62= RPM signal incorrect.
Code 63= Valve solenoid relay circuit faulty.
Code 67= Stop light switch circuit faulty.
Code 71= Control module internal fault.
Code 72= Data fault.
Code 73= Requested torque circuit fault.
Code 74= Actual torque circuit fault.
Code 78= Incorrect optional coding.
Code 85= Voltage too low.

Code 58 for gen 111= Throttle relaxer PWM interface fault.
Code 62 for gen 111= RPM signal fault.
Code 64 for gen 111= Throttle relaxer control module position fault.
Code 65 for gen 111= Throttle relaxer motor fault.
Code 66 for gen 111= Throttle relaxer control fault.

yeah, i definately had ecu code 31, and its gone after cleaning that speed sensor. ive reset the codes many times over the past year, and its always had ecu code 31. very strange. ill check the abs codes tommorow too.

I've bridged 5 and 12 on vt calais and nothing happens no flashing ABS dashlight just stays on, am i doing it right?
