Hey guys,

My VS has had this problem for a while - it seems intermittent and it's come back again.

When the windows are closed it's not too bad, however it's quite palpable when I open the driver's side window. I can smell the fumes and the petrol. It also comes in through the heating system sometimes.

A while ago it was so bad that even with both front windows open, driving at 60km/h, it was barely bearable.

It tends to happen more when I rev the engine than when I drive it restrainedly, which makes sense.

What could it be? I can't determine where it's coming from.

I have 2 theories:
(1) It's coming from the link between the extractors and the engine
(2) It's coming from the link with the cat converter.

Any help would be appreciated.

The old way to find exhaust leaks was to get someone to hold a tennis ball against the end of the exhaust pipe almost blocking it off completely whilst someone else looks and listens at all exhaust joints for that hissing noise. Engine running of course.
