10 character thingy

edit: but then why would you want to. The serpentine belt set up is about the most efficient you can get.

There is a place in NZ that does do a gilmer drive conversion for LS type engines however it requires all your existing pulleys be re-machined which is a costly exercise and fairly pointless.

Apparently, from what I've read (can't remember where I saw it). That "wanky sound" is because the belt is too tight.
IF the belt is adjusted properly, it shouldn't sound any louder than a normal belt.

the point of a gilmer belt is to MAKE that sound. not be silent. but the big problem with the belt is that when it gets to temp it usually expands about 20% of its own mass. shrinking the internal teeth and usually pulling the pullys apart. usualy it will put so much stress on the alternator bearings that it will destroy it.

Its just the way the belt is made. Its supposed to make that sound/be a better gripping belt to help stop belt slippage and tightness is just a by product of that.

Why would you waste that much for no reason? Much better things could be done.

Holy crap, almost $2k to make a noise and offer no performance benefit?

OP... put that money towards either a supercharger, or a dogbox.

You'll get sound AND performance.
