When I was 15 I was given the best bit of self preserving advice I could ever have been given.

When working on an engine (or anything for the matter), when you are straining against a spanner, look at where you hand will go when the spanner slips.

I have still skinned my knuckles, but only when I haven't followed that advice.

I should learn to follow that.
