Think you might want one with hooks last I looked at balancer there were only elongated slots.

Have a look at yours first.

Sometimes the thread in the centre gets stripped on the cheap ones. Try to get a brand one but really you don't have much to lose.
If the old balancer is scrap you can usually use a hook type puller instead if there's room behind pulley for the hooks.

OK,Thanks for the replies, haven't done one for over 20 years,IIRC the bolts screw thru the 3 slots but perhaps that was on a aftermarket one.

Yes it's still the same process just make sure the bolts you get fit the threads in your balancer ...

holes in this chinese looking balancer puller are too big ....the actual threaded holes in the pulley are pretty small compared to old school engine ones so you will need to get some long high tensile ones and some good washers..if you have a early vn v6 the balancer isnt a interference fit on the crank and the balancer just easily slides off without needing a puller once you crack the big balancer bolt.....after a few fell off ,gm decided to make the fit a bit closer on later engines hence you need a puller although they arent on that tight even when interference fitted ..you just have to get a straight square pull on the balancer.

Its a VP motor so interference fit, heard some horror stories where they seize on in some circumstances and need the oxy out to get them off... Thanks again for the replies.

If you tighten up the puller and it won't budge just give the balancer a tap on the side. One it starts moving the battles over.
