Still, @ say $10k for a motor and $5k for a gearbox, means that Over 300 very large parts went missing from your warehouse (via forklift presumably, due to weight). Undetected. Either someone there is a criminal genius or the security there is either in on it or completely inept.

That's correct, but how do you reckon you'd go getting an engine number stamped on a new engine without a receipt?

I might also point out that an engine number isn't the only way of verifying an engine. All manufacturers have some sort of casting numbers on their engines, most of the time it's date, month and year. It wouldn't be very hard to track down the stolen engines by their casting numbers i would imagine.

depends if you know someone that can dodgey up some pretty ridgy didgy engine numbers or not use the motors for on the road and make a burnout beast

You obviously have no idea how the law works. Recieving stolen goods is against the law, you'd be in almost as much **** as the thief himself. Not to mention when you get caught out, you lose the goods with no financial reimbursement.

Also to my understanding if your car has stolen parts in it the Police can confiscate the whole car

Correct. They certainly won't bother having the suspected stolen components removed and leave you with the rest of the car. They take the lot and hold it pending finalisation of any court proceedings. Generally, at the completion of the proceedings, the magistrate will direct police as to the disposal of the vehicle and parts, with the stolen parts being removed and returned to the rightful owners. The legally owned bits that are yours are then returned to you (or your nominated agent if you have ended up in the can).

It's really got me stuffed why anyone would consider buying a stolen engine and/or car, it's just not worth the risk. I agree with Calaber, some of the attitudes displayed by members in this thread is nothing short of appalling. Mabye it's just that i have some sort of conscience, obviously something that certain people don't posses.

vsl67, that is my understanding aswell.

Perhaps if they had been the victim of car theft, as I have, they might have a different view.

this had to have been done by a syndicate!! im surprised i havent been dragged in by the cops over this to be honest with ya!

I used to work at the DHL hub wich stored all the parts for gmh and sent orders over to factory every 13 minutes, my job was to accept the b, doubles full of engines and containers of gearboxes.

i,ll tell ya right now i had g#### all to do with it but have been hearing stories for years about these engines without numbers floating around .

dhl had so many cameras its not funny so no way ya could have got em from there, the only way i think this could have been done is whoever had the engine load to deliver to gmh from our stores they would have had to been unloaded at gmh and the forky mustve worked with him n left 1 in the truck ! then the driver has only a short window to meet someone n drop into a van or ute on side of road!! and if thats not the case well someones got an ever smarter system goin and getting em from inside holdens!

i heard a story last week that cops were at a certain racetrack asking about a guy in adelaide whos name i wont post. they had found 3 guys with these engines at this certain racemeet and told em all iff they signed a statement saying that they came from him they would keep the engines as a sign og good will from the company one guy didnt remember the fellas name and other 2 had never heard of him!! yet they still signed away and kept em!! i know this person they signing statements against and hes onto a ####ing good lawyer as those dirty filthy pig bastards are trying to frame some one!!

hey it may well be bullshit and a huge insurance scam by gmh to make up for large #### ups over the years!! why the hell are they not stamped!!

oh and i tryed to buy damaged engines like cracked on standard outlet manifolds that they were scrap metaling and was told i couldnt so iff id have came across em id have brought a couple lol!!

im not saying i would or will ever, ive had a car pinched before but i was glad the fkn thing got pinched saved me alot of headaches (car looked good but had alot of mechanical/electrical issues) if it didnt get pinched i wouldnt have the car i have today. parts have been goin missing from holdens for years and they are only cottoning on to it now lol i mean come on its in ELIZABETH wat do they expect its like ROH wheels were goin missing from them left right and bloody center and now they get an offshore company to make most of thier wheels which in turn most of those wheels are of poorer quality

i mean come on its in ELIZABETH wat do they expect

Wow. I am quite sure that most employees who work at the plant, and don't necessarily live at Elizabeth, are honest hard working folk. Sad that there are people like you who think thieves only live in certain suburbs. Newsflash for you buddy, recently it was discovered an Executive in one of Adelaide's prestigious law firms had embezzled millions. Thieves come from all walks of life and backgrounds.
