when i had my v6 manual i had the stock exhaust size with a highflow cat and dumped after the irs wishbone no hotdogs or mufflers just pipe and thats sounded hot and i never got defected or even looked at by the fellers in blue

Awesome this is what i have been wanting to do but preferably with at least one hot-dog so if i did get any grief i could say it does have at least 1 muffler :whistling

So your saying you never really got looked upon with a high flow cat and straight through pipe? Did you also have extractors? I have to say when i did go round the block a few times with my exhaust unbolted from the cat backwards i did like it :D

I myself wouldn't think it would be that loud or create that much attention unless you are stupid in front of the boys in blue but many people on here disagree i see

I currently only have the one muffler which is the centre resonator and well it doesn't even seem very loud at all and its dumped at the diff.

Im thinking stock size pipe to keep some back pressure for low end with a couple of hotdogs with a sexy looking tip :w00t:

What you think sqweek and was this the old Buick or newer Ecotec? and how bad was the drone? i presume you could control it a bit with a manual which ive luckily got and i also presume it would be reduced if it were a full exhaust and not dumped?

Thanks
Matt.

my vr v6 has 1 muffler and its a hotdog its not as loud as ya think mine is very deep and you can hear me coming but it wont bring cop attention onto ya and my car got yellowed a few months back for being to low and my car passed the pits with the hotdog on.cant wait to add extracters lol should sound even better!

and i honestly didnt feel any power loss ...and 3 of my mates have done it to there cars because they love the sound of mine i reckon it is worth doing only cost me like 70 bucks for a hotdog put on and i have seen no downsides and it is the exact note i wanted out of my six.

Alright that's it you've done it now :D I need the details of what your exhaust system consists of? What type of hotdog and what brand as i would also want a deep note like yours and what size piping? Standard CAT? Standard Headers? And anything else i have left out.

Last of all what would you think would be a decent price for your exhaust system? As currently my standard single centre muffler/resonator dumped at the diff doesn't cut it

And is there much drone and whats it like even though usually its controllable in a manual? And what do you think too hotdogs would sound like? Better or Worse?

Thanks
Matt

I replaced the rear mufler on a vn v6 wagon i had. I was asked a lot if it was a v8!! I will be doing the same with my vr now, as when you replace only the rear it has a nice deep growl. not like just removing the rear mufler and putting in a straight pipe, that sounds crap!

my v6 ute has extractors , high flow cat , 2 & 1/2" thru to only a hotdog at the end .

sounds good if it's driven to suit this .
if you go thru the gears to soon it nearly sounds like a truck .... sort of . need to rev it out just a tad .

my exhaust is just 2.5inch piping no extracters standard cat and i wouldnt have a clue on wot brand the hotdog is i just went to carline and said chuck a hotdog on in place of my lukey muffler and yeah turned out to be about double the noise and very deep but not truck like some people are warning you about.

my mate did had a vx commo with extracter and full 2.5inch straight thru stainless steel with just a hotdog and that was ear piercing
and did sound like a kenworth so i think if you over do it..it will sound like a truck.

mate there is nothing special about my exhaust really but the hotdog was the best bang for ya buck mod for my car and people cant believe its a six =)which im stoked about and it will pop and fart if you gear it love doin it.

it has the same amount of drone as my lukey muffler did so for something that cost like 70-100 bucks and does everything twice as good as a 200-300 buck muffler ya cant go wrong :D

i have paid around 400 for my whole exhaust and that with dual dumper tips so for just pipin and hotdog shouldnt be much mate and i think 2 hotdogs would probs be 2 far 1 is enough for sure hope this helped:thumbsup:

So you just replaced the rear muffler with a hotdog and left the centre muffler intact? I currently have the centre muffler dumped at the diff and frankly its not really much louder

You wouldn't have a clip by chance to see what it sounds like, and do you think that 2.5" is best or better to stick with standard 2.25"? Also i like to rev my ute so should be no problem with truck sounding gears :w00t: But what would you say to 2 hotdogs against 1 hotdog? Better or Worse? And it'll still sound alright without extractors or a high flow CAT right?

You also wouldn't have a clip by chance as your exhaust sounds exactly what mine will probably end up being with stock headers, stock CAT, 2.5inch or 2.25inch piping with single or twin hotdogs and a sexy looking tip. Honestly i am thinking that for a stock V6 that a high flow cat inst necessary and that extractors although they would be nice arnt worth it for the price/performance ratio? Is that what your thinking? Maybe for a V8 but this is only a V6. So last of all what would be a fair price for a CAT-Back 2.5" or 2.25" with a single hotdog or with twin hotdogs as those are the two variables i am not sure about.

Any more info much appreciated by all especially the above variables, is 2.5" too much flow for a V6 therefore reducing a significant amount of back pressure reducing low end which then in turn combined with low restriction hotdog style muffler would result in minimal back pressure? That is why i am thinking two hotdogs and 2.25" because it may leave some back pressure and low end and also due to the fact i don't want too much drone as my current exhaust with the stock single muffler dumped at the diff drones a bit but i presume this is probably due to being dumped?

Thanks
Matt

I dont have a clip of my exhuast but my mate does so i will try get him to send it 2 me or something see what he says and i wouldnt bother with highflow cat waste of money for 6 and extracters are expensive but im going to get them anyways and for price wise i would just ring around mate i wouldnt have a clue wot exhaust places are near u so yeah.
