Just to put the cat amongst the pigeons but I do believe you can remove the belt from the seat belt reel and put it back together again so you shouldn't need to buy a whole new seat belt and you shouldn't need to put a cut in the plastic trim piece if you have a genuine one.

assuming that means a full dissasembly of the seat belt back to bare bones?

If so, sounds like a recipe for it not function after

Black texta. Get the good quality ones that soak into the plasitic. Might take a few "coats" but I reckon that would do the job. If you are careful you may not even have to remove the trims at all.

I had the same issue with my VY,
I just got a black one, and installed the seat belt, assuming no one will notice.
If the other one fails, I will buy a black one again to match.
If its an OCD issue, buy 2 seat belts with the same colour trim, install them,
Job done,

I watched a seat belt repair shop do it. You can put new seat belts onto an old reel. As long as the rewind mechanism is in good working order there is no issue. Mine wasn't and the whole unit was replaced.
