That's right that's why I put it up. I looked everywhere for my answer even found one on ls1 forums about someone having trouble with the lights but there was no answer to my problem that I could find in that thread.

The more information and tips we put online helps everyone.

how hard was it to change over? thats the only thing i dont like in my ss, why did holden combine the heater controls with the radio....

I didn't install the head unit or the fascia. But when I changed over from Jvc to alpine. They wanted another $600 for new fascia because the old one was program to jvc headunit but I could send mine away and get reprogrammed for the alpine I think was $300. But I didn't do either, you can tell what the air con is doing by feel. One day I might get it programmed to alpine so I can see what it's doing.

Okay so this got me thinking , so I pulled the dash apart again last night and what do you know. It didn't need to be programmed to alpine. I can now see what I'm doing to the aircon again . Cables were taped up. Shame on the car audio place that told me it needed to be programmed just to rob me blind.

Did your gauges come with that magnetic control button? You only want the big plug which has 6 wires I believe. If your doing this install jump on carmodder and search hsv ve gauges install

Was the steering angle sensor a pain in the ass to connect to? The wires are tucked in pretty tight leaving not much to play with

I just did this install to my ve ss 2006. I thought I would write up very brief instructions.

First make your wiring loom to suit hsv ve gauge harness ( 6 wires in total, i made mine 2mtrs long each, all different colors.)

Pin 1 CAN Comms Enable ##This wire is to be connected to the steering angle sensor plug which is located RHS steering wheel under the dash there is three plugs there, you want the one on the far left. Connect to (blue wire Pin 5)

Pin 2 Illumination##Locate the white wire with yellow stripe (Pin 24) from the fifth connector (Brown) on the Body Electronics Module wiring harness. Located near accelerator pedal.

Pin 3 12V Ignition##This wire can be connected to either the light switch (pink wire with Blue Stripe Pin10)or there is a white plug RHS below headunit for power.

Pin 4 Ground##This wire can be connected to either the light switch (black wire Pin 4) or can be bolted down RHS below headunit for ground

Pin 5 GM Lan +##This wire is to be connected to the steering angle sensor plug which is located RHS steering wheel under the dash there is three plugs there, you want the one on the far left, Connect wire to (brown and black stripe Pin 3)

Pin 6 GM Lan -## This wire is to be connected to the steering angle sensor plug which is located RHS steering wheel under the dash there is three plugs there, you want the one on the far left, but you want to connect this wire to a ( brown Pin 1)

After you have connected all the wires test Gauges are working. If you are doing this install at night or you have the car parked under somewhere or in a garage where the car thinks its night time, you wont be able to turn off the lights to the gauges even though you have your head lights turned off. Drive out into the sun and the lights on the gauges will turn off. I found out the hard way.

Has anyone done this conversion to a 2010 SSV as there seems to be some differences when it comes to the steering angle connections.
My SSV doesnt have the steering angle plug as described but a plug out of the loom straight into the angle sensor and the colour coding on the cables are different. I picked up the CAN Bus connections from the OBD2 port but dont know where to pick up the CAN Comms enable connection.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks

Ok I have found the answer. For those with a 2010 SSV or similar the plug for the steering angle sensor doesn't exist in this model.
What you will need to do is wire to the headlight switch as per the instructions for 12v +- and the white/yellow down near the accelerator pedal for the light dim circuit, but pick up the CAN Bus Hi/lo from the OBD2 plug brown/black and brown. and the Data comms enable is the Dark Green wire that goes to the steering angle sensor (I couldn't get the plug out of the module so gave up trying). You will need to peel back some of the cotton covering on the loom to make the connection. Hope this helps someone else out as I was snookered but after looking through hundreds of pages in the wiring manual found the info.
