The First Fleet setup the first colony in Australia under the flag and jurisdiction of the British empire but the First Fleet came from England. Portsmouth, England to be precise. So the English colonised Australia under the flag of the British Empire. Primary school education teaches most Australians this.

Yeah sure, world history and the government of Australia records the facts quite differently but Raj if you define the last port of departure from a country in the nation of origin as the basis for your determination then your world is unecessarily more complex than the recognised sovereignty of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and its Royal Navy.

As other previous posters mentioned, the thread is pretty much off courser.

Cannot leave it alone without making a sarcastic joke.... To reply on who colonize what and when; the "new world" was colonized (invaded?) by aliens.

To me, that makes more sense. Is not the first time controversy is used as a rating booster vehicle.

Some time back, we this radio persona (Don Inmus) that made some "racist comments". Turned out that he was told to create controversy by the producers. He got a "slap on the wrist", and an appology for been a douchebag and off he went with the show. Right now you ask about this incident and people forgot about it, is long gone, dead.
