L77 Engine Noise

Evening All,

Starting to notice a small rattle under light acceleration - Almost sounds like pinging but not...
Only happens when you’re heading up a slight incline under light acceleration

Believe it may be coming from the LHS, but can’t be sure...

Any ideas?

Car is a VE V8 with 94thou on the clock - Running Mobil 1 5w 30 and have done since day dot

How are your plugs? Probably due, check leads. Run a tank of e85 clean deposits and O2. Spray the MAF wouldn’t hurt.
I had same at 130k km highway found joy when changed oil to 10w40 Penrite 10 Tenths. Budget for lifters (Cam maybe) well before 170k km smile be happy that’s all this engine will cost for another 170k km.
If above no good noise still present log trims, kr, O2 volts, MAF frequency might be injectors or leak.

Mate wondering if you sorted issue..
i have 12 ssv redline ute.. am getting constant pinging sound under load on flat and inclines..
not down hill.. so i think its pinging..
have no faults.. do knock sensors need to fault.. or they be bad..?

There's your problem.....

A while back, I did some research and discovered that BP had changed their formulation of their Ultimate fuel - Consequently, it was around the same time they were advertising their 'dirt busting' formula and 'busts dirt in 2 tanks' - I was curious as to how this 'dirt busting' was occurring and why they would change the formula.

Turns out ethanol was being included in their formula - it's considerably cheaper than other octane boosters, it bumps up the octane rating AND it also cleans!

With that, I switched to Mobil Synergy 8000 - 98 RON fuel, available from 7/11 - Haven't had a problem with pining since!

Switch your fuel and see how you go
