Dropped my SS off for a service this morning and was given a VF SV6 courtesy car. Must say, the V6 and V8 might only have 50kw difference, but you can really feel the lack of torque in the V6 compared to the v8 . I came from a V6 before I got e SS and at the time didn't think there was that much difference. it's only when you step back into one that you can notice it

To the OP, the Falcon 6 is known for its low down torque. The Holden V6 is not. Might be something you just need to get used to

Yeah. Might have to adjust my driving style after 20 years driving big in line sixes.

I don't know the measurements, but I'd say it's the long stroke of the Barra makes the bottom end torque. It' also partly why they don't rev that hard and why SIDI's rev so well. It works for Ferrari :rofl2: Shorter stroke engines tend to be more fuel efficient too.

Horses for courses.

Yeah. There's not much reason to rev a Barra out to its redline. My wife has a VE SV6 wagon and you certainly need to rev it hard and high. Certainly better power top end than a Ford in line six.

The 4ltr has lovely torque, didn't know the XR6T made heaps from 1900rpm, no boost by then surely...?

Low down torque gets you into the meat of the boost on the turbo Barra. They're a lethal combination that really don't ever require a cam upgrade, just a bigger blower if you dare.

Most modern turbo cars, in factory form at least, can make maximum boost from around the 1500-1800rpm mark. The torque-curves look really artificial on a graph as a result. :)

I just figured lower compression would make it more of a high end thing. my MPS is at max boost at 2.5k rpm with the stock turbo but doesn't an xr6t have a gt35?

Gt35/40. 6lbs of boost. The current XR6 Turbo makes 533nm at 1950 but has 90% at 1200rpm. The Skoda Octavia RS has a 2lt turbo making 350 nm at 1500 through to 4500. I drove a manual one once and it was awesome.

This is where the turbos have it all over an NA engine - apart from the high revving performance engines, the main stream cars with turbos just have that low down torque. Even a Fiesta 1.0 litre turbo triple quotes its torque figure from 1400 rpm. Compare that to 4400 rpm for max torque on 6.0 litre V8
