Mine has 250k on it, change just before rev limiter almost every day, service every 10000k and is still going strong, just uses about 1L of oil every 5000k.

Considering the way it sounds he drives, its not too bad, he may be running a thinner oil > ?
You shouldn't do too much damage hitting the rev limiter, thats what it is there for at the end. The springs are a rev limiter as well in a sense as they are quite weak, so binding those up too often can damage the valve train. A thrash here and there apparently isn't too bad for the engine. It also depends on the type of k's, 300,000 or severe stop start, short trip, around the area driving is worse that 300,000 of cruise, highway driving , out in the country.

The only oil my car burnt was a 10W30. Other than that never. Now i dont use less that a 40 or 50 weight oil.
