Picked up a 173 VB from Victoria not too long ago.

Was just doing some digging and it turns out the Model No. denotes it was a Sydney Built Car.
How rare were these Sydney VBs?
I also noticed it is tagged with GV7 indicating a 3.55 Diff. How common were these?

Also did all the 173 VB commodore use the LD1 Engine...or did some use LD2? Cheers

Thanks for the reply.
What I'm really trying to understand though is how many were built in Sydney? Are they considered to be a rarer find?

the model no. denotes a Sydney built vehicle???
all models 8VK, 8VL and 8VX (except wagons which were originally built only at Dandenong)
were built in both plants so what info supports your comment? chassis number, build plate?

and LD2 engine? nope... low comp 2850s were only ever fitted to export Toranas as far as I recall
all local Commodores with 2850 engines were LD1

Correct me if I'm wrong because I very well could be...but I was told that the BR at the end of the no indicates Sydney built.

My model no is 8VK69BR.

ummm... nope

deciphered that 'model' as -
8 = Holden (manufacturer code)
V = car line (as in VB, VC etc)
K= luxury level (L= SL and X = SLE)
69 = body style of 4 window sedan
B = car line series B for VB
R= some say it is the engine code but I have always understood this character is Righthand drive

so to decide?
you need the PSN for this vehicle ...something like AVB123456MRxxx (on a plate or stamped)
or VIN for example 8L69LHJ123456B (also on a plate or stamped on the car itself)
to tell whether its a Pagewood or Dandenong or Acacia ridge built vehicle
or
other plate info, like the body number , it will say 'BODY 123456-S' which is for Pagewood Sydney (M is Dandenong Melbourne)

Cheers for the info, body number denotes Sydney.
On another note do you know anything about how common they were?

yes.... in the 17-18 months VB was in production GMH made roughly about 100,000 VBs and
except for small numbers at Acacia Ridge and VB wagons (all built at Dandenong)
production of the rest was roughly 50/50 Melbourne and Sydney

Sydney made lots
