It depends what you need the head unit to do... Does it have the features you need? Does it have more features than you need? If so, maybe you could choose a lower model that still has all the features you need and save some cash.

The 5850 would be adequate for most people... The 6850 allows connection of a 3.5mm jack into the front if needed, but personally, i'd rather use an iPod adaptor if I was going to connect an external audio device.

i would go with the jvc. 24bit dac and the s/n ratio is probably the same between the 2 h/u's.
but also use them. go to a shop and see which one is easier to use. you should be basing your final decision on useability aswell, because you dont want to have to need to take your eyes off the road for to long to change and setting on the unit.
