theres a guy on ebay that does a moulded pillar cover with integrated gauge pods. Might be an option instead of getting a new trim piece

Yeah I seen that actually but they are for 52mm gauges and these are bigger.

UPDATE: My engine is almost ready for pickup, and I ended up getting some extra things done as well like:

Cam package of xp cam, 130lb valve springs, retainers, locks, viton stem seals, rollmaster double chain, oil pump kit and machined cover.

I know that I said I couldn't afford a cam at this time, but I got some funds for my birthday that I could put towards it, plus I sold one of my other cars.

So I'm sure a few of you will like the engine mods that are getting done :)

Should hopefully have the engine sitting back in the car by next weekend!

I assume when you say ready for pick up, you're having someone do it for you? Aren't you a mechanic?

Yes I am getting it done somewhere, and I am getting them to do it all because I don't have some of the equipment needed to do it all. I will be installing the engine back in the car once it is done though.

Found a problem with one of the exhaust valves now, so looks like heads are coming off and might end up getting some head work done in this case.

So you had a perfect excuse to purchase new tools and you turned it down??
I would be going to visit a doctor if I had done that, LOL

Haha, good call. However, I can't really think of any "special" tools needed to do the job apart from a valve spring compresser and a torque wrench.

me too. Or I can't think of anything that wouldn't come in handy in the future, so a perfect excuse to get now.
Torque wrench(es)
valve spring compressor
valve lapping tool & paste
harmonic balancer puller/installer.

even if the shop assembled the rotating assembly and left you the rest, that would be a good compromise. (saves on measuring tools and precision work)
