Guys,
My dad wrote off my VZ Calais last week when 2 x Canadians in a rental car driving from the airport didn't realise they were on the wrong side of the road... Before & After Pics included. Dad has a broken hand which we assume is from the air bags deploying as there was no damage to the cabin otherwise. The insurance company has written off the car citing a $21000 repair bill which includes a front right hand chassis rail replacement. Not happy as this car was unflawed with only 48000 kms on it. Cest la vie...

Man sorry about your loss. Just out of interest, how does the insurance work on a vehicle with only 48,000kms on the clock. Obviously a VZ Calais is worth more than $21,000. How much do the actually pay you when they write it off.

I have a VZ SV6 in mint condition with 54,000kms and have no idea what they would give me if I wrote it off?

the damage was worth 21,000 so say the car is worth 30k that would deem it an economic writeoff sadly as its over the repair cost threshold

60% of the vehicles value! which in this case the car is worth about $32-$35000, which would be correct

The agreed insured value was $27600 with GIO. The assessor told me that once the repair bill is worth 75% of the agreed value they write the car off. Not sure if 75% is standard for all cars or if the percentage is a sliding scale dependent on age/condition etc.
