Is the ridge halfway down the centre normal??
say for making sure the balancer fits on nice and tight, therefore needing some hammer persuasion.

Or is this a manufacturer issue, where it was not machined correctly.

What does everyone think??

Measure it up and see how much of an interference fit it is? But contact the supplier/manufacturer to see what they say otherwise use a small hone very carefully.

I wouldn't hammer it on though. Maybe try heating it gently and then use the crank bolt to pull it on

Every machined mating surface should be flat and true.
Serious manufacture defect, not fit for use, take it back for a refund and buy power bond or similar brand name.

It is a Powerbond.

Far out, I would have hoped they would have taken it straight back, no questions asked.

FWIW I tend to check every part out of the box before taking it home.
In any case the manufacture should not be letting this type of stuff slip thru the cracks.

I purchased it and had it sent across the tasman, first one I got was for a V6. They took it back and swapped for the correct one no problem. Many months later while attempting to fit it, was when I found the ridge in it.

If it's powerbond, link them to this thread (for the pictures) and then see what they say........

Probably looks a lot worse than the pic. A transition diameter before the interference fit is quite normal, otherwise its very hard to align the balancer on the crankshaft.

MACE got me to deal with Precision Parts (Sydney) as they are the distributor, and I have tried sending pics, which they reckon they did not receive. And today I emailed with a link to this thread asking if this worked and they replied with:
No it didn’t work sorry mate
