well did this recent problem happen because of there being too little of a moderator presence or because someone who was a mod thought that they were more miportant than they really were (read: too many whole site mods that have lost the focus of what it means to be a mod, a normal user with above normal knowlage of a particular part of commodores that relates to others well)?
Moderators are not made so based on there knowledge of a particular area of interest. They are done so based on, there ability to keep order within the site, see things from both sides, keep a leave and some times unopionated point of view, etc. Knowing alot about commodores for example is a bonus. Not to single any one out but take 12volt for example, might not know alot about commodores but makes a damm fine moderator........

Well I agree and disagree on that.

For me, a moderator should have a healthy knowledge of cars, or at least be very informative. The last thing I want to see is a moderator that sits around 'The Pub' all day posting in irrelevant threads about coke zero and doesn't post anything intelligent at all.

Coke Zero thread was just the first that came to mind, no offence or anything intended.

Edit, congratulations to vlv8vic and infusion.

He was chosen not for his knowledge or audio/electronics, but more for how helpful he was towards all members and all their questions.
I never said a normal member can keep order, they can as a mod, and there is certain qualities in a person that show that they will be able to keep order.
You know me well enough to know I will happily answer any questions you or any one else has.

There are currently less mods than there were previously, we've only put on 2 new mods but in the last month or so we have lost 4 (airstrike, juz, ratt and hozy). The workload for us mods only gets worse as the site grows. I personally have hundreds of pm's 95% of those are from members asking me to do something as a mod. Every week we get shitloads of reported posts in our emails. And then theres all the moderated posts which need approval. Thats not mentioning all the other threads that go unreported which we have to find and deal with ourselves.

Yes the site is running smoothly, but thats because everyone on the admin/mod team is working their arses off. So if putting on a few more mods means sharing the workload around and making sure less dodgy posts slip through I figure it can only be good for the site.

Nice, indirect attack at me.. because it's not like when I was a mod I posted anything helpful what-so-ever.. are you saying mods should be strictly forbidden from socialising with the members in the pub, and stick to editing and moving posts and cleaning up after the members and only being allowed to post technical responses?

I'm not the most intelligent person when it comes to cars (what little I do know in contast to some I do get out there to people who ask) but I do have experience with running websites and forums.. which is how I got to being a mod in the first place. By your theory the people with the most knowledge of cars should be moderators regardless of anything else? Sorry but to me that's just ignorance

It wasn't an attack at anyone mate, I just mentioned the first pub thread I could think of and that was one that I'd recently been reading. By my theory I'm saying that on a car forum, the majority of moderators should have an idea about what they are talking about, that way all questions can get answered straight away. Sure - people with forum experience are regarded aswell, but I'm looking at potential moderators that have neither - Sure they contribute, everyone contributes to the site in one way or another. But I wouldn't want to see a moderator that comes into every thread saying 'lol that’s good' or 'that’s nice (100 smiley faces)' If you understand what I'm saying.

Once more I'll say that in no way was it an attack at you, or anyone for that matter. It was just me stating what I like to see in moderators.
