Got a bit bored over the weekend and decided to break up the shiny stuff with some baked on
Red Fire engine enamel.
Covered the top radiator hose with PET braid. May do the bottom one later.
Although it's hard to see and probably not worth the effort.
Might get around to doing the Fuel Rail Crossover Pipe as well, one day.

The little blue PCV intake filter, might have to be changed to a red one as well.
Looks a bit out of place imo.

Engine bay looks like you could eat your breakfast off it its so clean..nice job. Your catch was vented? Shouldnt have even considered a vented one in first place. Mines an elite unvented catch can. well made..works fantastic and catches that bit of oil no problem. Glad you got it sorted.

Thanks Kanga.

No, the can isn't vented.
That little blue filter in the picture is the air intake to the crank case, then out through the PCV valve,
via the catch can and into the intake manifold.

The problem was the oil drain plug not sealing, at the bottom of the can.
Bad design really. The can is round and they put a 10mm or so threaded hole in it and expect a screw in plug to seal against the can,
even with a gasket washer.
The drain plug should've been put underneath the can, on a FLAT surface.

Well.......After nearly all day, I've finally gotten rid of the really bad idle and the back firing.

As I have stated in another thread, the distributor clamp bolt turned out to be loose, allowing the thing to turn at will.
The only thing that was holding it from spinning out of control, was the spark plug leads.
God knows how long it's been like that, as I've been having trouble with the damn thing for ages.
It must have just got progressively looser over a while, thus throwing the timing out gradually over time.

To do up the distributor clamp bolt without a Crows Foot Spanner, was a task in its self.
I had to cut a 14mm spanner in half, just so as I could get to it.
It's set at TDC at the moment, so the idle sits a bit too high, but when it's backed off, timed right and the idle's set, she'll be all good.
Anyway, It has a new cap, rotor and 9mm Eagle eliminator leads.
