i'd have to agree with the rest of the guys.
i wouldnt use it because its too big of a risk on your car.
ethanol bad.

i use BP Ultimate 98 on my six and not so much for the "increase" in power but more for the fact its a really clean fuel.
Agreed.. I only use 98Ron petrol in my Ecotec.. I have noticed differences though, could be placebo?

But I only use it because it keeps my injectors and fuel system clean.

I use either 95 or 98 ron depending on availability at the time i need it..

Tried the 100 octane optimax extreme in my ecotec V6 and have to admit, there is a noticeable difference in accelerating

Mileage has remained around the same though..

As for the Ethanol component... gonna hav to do a little more research..

The new Optimax Extreme has had a fair bit development put into it. I think most people have been scared off by the previous misuse of Ethanol blended fuel in the past. There were cases where service stations (not shell) were selling fuel with over 20% ethanol.
Optimax extreme uses 5%, so it seems pretty safe.

Anyhow, I found a site with some good info, www.100octane.com.au.

Check out the FAQ section, there is a bit on Ethanol content.

I refuse to try it based on the fact it uses 5% ethanol
Ethanol is fine in all Holden's current and just superseded engines. In fact United's Boost98 with 10% Ethanol is the best thing I have ever used in a GenIII. Optimax Extreme is only called that because of the price I am guessing (even though Shell would have you believe it is because of the 100RON number it carries), at the moment it is 3c more than Optimax per litre, but word from Shell is that it will soon be 7c more!! Buggered if I can see how!! United sell their 98RON Boost for 3c more than std Unleaded!! And it has 10% Ethanol not 5%! And to boot, they sell their PlusULP with a RON of 94 for 4c less than Std Unleaded 91RON. I have even run this in the Clubby but suggest that the 98 is better for the GenIII, my fianc'ee's VX1 S runs ok on it though to the extent of even being more economical. Support these guys, they are saving us all money without compromising the performance we all enjoy. Steer clear of Shell/Coles Express. (oh and I am not an employee of either nor paid by either in any way.)

same... ive seen the outcomes and no way is that **** going in my car

note that in the mythbuster section of the 100octain site for optimax it states

with a low blend of 5% ethanol it is UNLIKLEY to cause any deterioration

notice how they dont say it wont and instead say unlikley... trust no1
