Is it common for the overflow bottle to crack? Anyone been here before? I assume it's a simple job - any tips?
Probably worthwhile going for a new one - anyone know how much?

I do have good access to second hand parts - are the VT/VX overflow bottles the same as the VY?

Thanks.

I assume it's an ecotec.
Not real common. Depends on where it's cracked.
If it's cracked on the bottom, you may have picked up a rock or something.
10minute job. Just disconnect the over flow hose. Crawl under the car and undo three bolts and one plastic clip (i think)
and it will drop out under the car. Probably one of the easier things to remove.
Don't go for a new one. U can get 'em off ebay for a couple of $'s

I won't be sure it's cracked till I've removed it. I was thinking I'd try to have a second hand one on standby ready to go in - if mine is cracked as I suspect, maybe I'll just check it first - then patch the car up and source a replacement if needed.
I get a bit nervous about losing coolant - especially these hot days we have been having in Brisbane. Need to be ready to escape the Mayan apocalypse ;-)

If you've got a space ship......can I come?????

No spaceship, but with a downhill start and a long straight run, the L67 flies like a bat out of hell, and I'll be driving like there is no tomorrow.
Sorry bro, no room, already have to decide between leaving the wife or one of the kids to make room for the large esky.

Thanks for the encouragement/tips.

Looking at the description on ebay, and others listed, it seems common for people to think they need a new one, but it turns out to be split/disconnected hose. Seems worthwhile to drop it out and examine it before I go ahead and source a replacement.

cheers

If you are handy with a soldering iron, you can actually "weld" the crack closed either by using a piece of scrap plastic as a fill,
or if the plastic's thick enough, by fusing it together. There are special soldering iron tips available for that purpose, but i've just used the normal tip.
It takes a bit of practice though and stinks to high hell, so don't do it inside.
