theres a hole in the bottom of the actual pcv valve itself. i believe that hole has to face the channel coming up below it

hard to explain but if valve goes in wrong ways wont work properly?

Grab yourself a can of CRC carb cleaner and some rags. May as well clean the throttle body whilst you are there, just make sure you don't get the cleaner into the TPS.

Spray on the carb cleaner, give it a bit of time to soak and then wipe away the crap.

im losing power and im hoping that the pcv value will fix it any suggestions on other things that could cause loss of power? the car runs fine no noises no smoke out the back idles well.

i leaned to the pcv valve being clogged because of smell and power and fuel consumption.

I'd be cleaning the MAF as well. You can either buy the proper MAF cleaner or just use some carb cleaner and blow it out with some low pressure air. Do the general service things like filters, fluid, plugs and leads etc.

The VS also has a known issue with the O2 sensors, depending on how old yours are they probably need replacement and are a common issue related to excessive fuel usage.
