you want a 50 or 60 weight oil for these motors in these hot climates...

the first "W" number indicated how well it flows on cold start up... so something like 5x50 or 10w60 would be ideal.
And no... 5W or 10W does not mean the oil is "too thin"... its the second number that indicates viscosity at operating temp.... and you want it to be a thicker than your average 15w40.

I ran Penrite 15-60 in My Ute for 140,000km's no issues, still run it in the VT for the passed 100,000, no issues.

2000 VX Series 1

192,000k or a little more, cannot remember.

70-80% highway and main road driving. There is an increasing amount of stops and traffic lights when I drive towards the CBD or populated regions. But for the most part it's just cruising, windy roads and roundabouts.

Can get down to near 0 degrees on a cold night and over 40 degrees on a hot day.

Penrite recommends 5w-40 or 10w-40 where their 10w-50 Extra 10 can be used. I use 10w-50 in my other two cars and they love it but I keep reading on these forums that a thicker fuel like 15w-60 is preferred?

Highway driving is easy on the oil in the V6 engines.

Cold nights down to 0 deg. 5w- is preferred.

Over 40 deg. consistently a w-50 is better if its now and again I would go a w-40

Overall I would go the 5w-40 if the vehicle is not burning excess amount of oil.

The product data sheet shows the following, it is ACEA A3 rated and it is BMW and MB approved.

Its not too thin at at 100o C 15.0

i've been using penrite 15w60 for the last 50K's(3 years) and this is what an engine that's had regular oil changes looks like, there is 0 sludge and all moving parts are a golden colour @ 240K
