Why do so many protrude so far from the surround fascia? I've got mine sitting almost flush. I'll get a picture to show what I mean.

it all depends on if it's a motorized face or not. Some need to protrude that far... some don't

Hmmmm. I bought the pioneer you recommended (thanks heaps by the way :) ) and thats sits really nice. Motorised face and all. Not knocking anyones stereos here, just an observation.

yeah Pioneers and Alpines typically are able to sit pretty flush in the mounts. Often times, it's laziness on the fitters behalf to not try their hardest or to go with the a safe option.

I want c/c too but I think it would be too much fking around to convert it.

Yeah mate, its a HUGE f**k around! You might as well buy a new car, i hear it's at very minimum a grand, brcause you have to change the whole system, vents, fans etc.

It can be done for a lot less if your patient and keep an eye out at the wreckers. You don't need to swap out vents but there is a lot of work to it but it's mostly just swapping stuff, no real modification just some basic handtools and knowing what parts you need.

Then i haven't done ENOUGH research!

also; Unfortunately i'm not GREATLY in the know about parts, and what to do and where, so for me its more :(

but if you read my thread and read the last comment, and you ARE in the know and want c/c, GO FOR IT! :)

Go to the wreckers, get a Calais that's been crashed and start swapping.

You'll get interior, cluster, electrics etc etc and learn some mechanical knowledge.

Or, sell your car and buy a used Calais or Berlina for not much more and be done with it lol.
