Definately serviceable and Dex VI isnt hard to come by at all.

If it was my own car Id be doing a fluid change every 50-60k

I serviced my transmission in the driveway at home a few weeks back now. Easy as to change the fluid.

Had no choice though. The transmission suddenly just stopped working in Port Melbourne on way home from work. No bang, grinding or other giveaway signs of trouble it just simply told me no more. Had no gears at all and had to call a tow. Checked the oil later at home and what came out was nothing less than disgusting. I had simply put it off for too long and now the car is up to 155,000k. The oil had probably never been changed gathered by the black oil spilling out from underneath.

Bought a new transmission service kit from Repco and changed the oil myself. Cost was minimal for the kit at bout $80. Fluid was a 2x4ltr job from Supercheap totalling about $140. Started working again no problems after servicing it but will need a full service in the not to distant future.

" ...they don't service the auto on the VE's" is a load of s**t if you ask me. See attached photos of the oil that come out from mine at 150,000k.

Does anyone know if it is possible to FULLY flush the transmission? I'm talking about the coolers, pipes, torque converter... THE LOT! There was a lot of crap in mine.

We have a machine that flushes all the oil out. You disconnect a cooler line and tap into the system with the machine which takes out the dirty oil and pumps the clean oil in.

The machine becomes part of the trans line so everything runs through it while the car is running.

Best you could do at home is drop the sump then flush out the cooler and cooler lines with something like white spirits then refill the system. Even then old oil will be sitting in the converter and throughout the box. Only real method is to get a workshop with the proper machine to do it.

^^Holy **** myberlina, that fluid's gone. My dirty old VS gets a basic tranny service every 18 months or as soon as the fluid loses it redness. Its such a cheap simple thing to get serviced on a part that's very expensive to replace. Its a no brainer to me

my ve service book says 150K km is the first service. got it done then at an auto trans specialist for $120 who told me that he preferred doing them before the 100K km is reached and then every 45K km from then on. all good with mine so not a real problem but he said he had done rebuilds on several VEs well before the first service was due.

Yeah I just checked. Due @ 150,000km.
My mechanic may be retarded.

I think that is the way to go now. I only did the service myself out of curiosity and the need to get the car mobile again.

Is the full flush done as part of a standard transmission service or do I need to ask for the full treatment? Will look at putting it in after I get back from Thailand late March.

greenacc, I bought 2x 4ltr Nulon 100% fully synthetic. Australian made :D. It was roughly $60-$70 each but price wasn't a big factor. I just wanted to do the service and find out it the transmission still worked! lol

Auto trans flush generally flushes all the old fluid out but doesnt include a filter change unless requested and would cost extra.

Ive read most of the posts for this and agree every 60k the trans should be serviced, Note the when filling up the trans with your new fluid- the trans must be a certain temp to achive the correct level of oil.....
