So was the "new" 1978 Commodore just an Opel in disguise?

Thank you krusing. Previously I had remarked on early Holden engineers finding inspiration from BMW's. As the article shows, Opel had learned a thing or two already from BMW. Making an 1970's Opel into a large 4 door Holden was a long and arduous process, really started in 1965. Holden had GM pushing them to copy the 1960 USA 119" WB full size B Body platform but Holden resisted. Thankfully

yup...

especially when a fair part of the posters first link is a rehack of another wrong long list of engineering facts
like
this wrong fact keeps getting thrown up .. again and again

in 1982 Nissan saved the day, providing some early-development RB30Es for Holden to install into half-a-dozen VK engineering mules.

With the OHC Nissan engine offering 11 more horses than an EFI-optioned black motor, along with better economy, it was a no-brainer

ALL BallSHITE!
The Nissan engine was selected as the Holden 6 (carb or EFI ) could not be changed/engineered for ADRs in time to meet the intro of ULP
(unleaded fuel causing the death knell of the Holden engine)

And now they killed off Holden, they can send us Silverado pickup trucks with 147 inch wheelbase instead.

Yep, again ........... all us Commodore tragics 'know' that the VB was secretly imported from Germany by Holden in large numbers, and the badges were just changed.
Fake photos in magazines of Commodores being tested in the Flinders Ranges, and all that stuff.
Pretty much the same story as the moon landing, all a big cover-up that nobody talked about.

Peter Robinson was going to a story about fitting the Nissan engine into the VL, and Holden took out an injunction against publication. It is still in force today, and he is not allowed to comment on it.
That smacks of a conspiracy theory that @Ripley ( or @Reacher ) could enlighten us about with his deep diving research. Perhaps the mystery shooter on the grassy knoll in Dallas was the eventual recipient of the $7M that GM had to pay to bail out Holden during that time.

Geez, I love reading BS about the development of the Commodore from people in places that are not Australia, and who were not even born at the time.
Keep up the good work, I need a good laugh. Did some-one mention AI bot ?

VZ Crewman, VZ Cross 8, & ya mum.
The only thing that was Opel was the styling.
They took the car and said, “This is crap and won’t last two weeks on Aussie roads” (Ford said the same with the XD)
Holden turned it into the car Opel should have built.
