srs airbag light on, but no trouble code.

hi all,

the srs airbag light, warning symbol and chime on my vy ss just wont go away!
I have had a scan tool on the car when 1st trying to diagnose the problem,
Reading: resistance too high.

We then swapped the airbags out, no change on scan tool!
swapped out airbag module, still no change!
finally swapped out clock spring, seemed to have solved the resistance issue and now reads: no fault code. SWEET!

cleared the warning symbol on cluster with scan tool. sweet!!

ignition off then back on, and the problem reappears

any helpful advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Correct me if I am wrong but, I thought SRS / Air bag issues needed to be re-set with a Tech2 / Dealer only?
Can't remember where I heard that but always remembered it.

the srs light keeps coming back on my vy but ive had it cleared twice and the they say theres no problem at all .just got used to it now

Have either of you removed your driver seats recently?

Not me personal, but some one before me may have.

When doing anything airbag related,

disconnect battery and kick back for 20 mins, so that the airbag capacitor drains, or it will throw a code that only tech 2 can remove.

I had an SRS AIRBAG fault after removing my passenger seat in my VY ute to install a subwoofer behind it. Tried disconnecting the battery for 30 minutes but no such luck still had the fault. Took the car to a guy with tech 2 capabilities and he was able to clear the error without a hitch.

Clearing the code is 1 thing - stopping it's recurrence is the trick!

Need to identify/locate every sensor in the circuit and swap them out 1 at a time?

I assume the srs is completely non-functional if showing an error - ie, no airbags or seatbelt pretensioning in the unfortunate event...

You havent changed the instrument cluster recently have you by any chance?? Some scantools dont know whats happening when that happens throwing generic "resistance high" faults.
