the RB 30 engine in both the VL and the nissan skyline have bleeder bolts, with the top of the radiator lower than the highest water jacket in both cases

and yet the skyline isnt known for cracked heads due to steam traps, whereas the VL most certainly is

anyone know why? something altered on the VL to fit the front of the engine under the bonnet?

sporty auto

If anyone has ever wondered why the first to second change on the 6 cyl auto is so abrupt and bumpy, I read somewhere it was done deliberately to make the car seem more sporty....

Due to the eng and rad being different heights in the VL - Skyline.

yes Mag is correct
also the fact its more commonly know because of the build numbers in Australia.
the amount of the vls compaired to the skylines in Australia are a huge diffrence so it is more know/common as there are more cars having the problem

If you have a look, the firewall end of the motor sits higher than the top of radiator due to the space constraints of the VL having a slightly pointier front end.
The Skylines never had this drama, it was simply because they had to shoehorn that motor in there and didnt investigate it all thoroughly

holden made the engine fit they just had to make a bit of a comprimise. as long as you are aware of it and do it properly its no problem. some people just don't check their coolant or think they know how to do something when they don't (this includes mechanics too, i'm sure some have been caught out over the years)
