Mine is the same. Vol up and down makes the vol go up and sometimes it mutes it.. But the channel changer side is perfect. I just use the radio vol on the radio

Mine occasionally does it and I have the series 2 squishy buttons.

I find that if my down vol does the wrong function I just have to press the down vol once on the headunit itself and the steering wheel button works again.

I have a pioneer HU with a module to make the SWC buttons work. Not sure if that has anything to do with it...

Jezz sounds like even if hooked up to an aftermarket HU. The buttons are not worth it.

any of you guys tried a squirt of contact cleaner in there? Sounds like the problem is the good old coffee cup...

Ok stuffed up this morning. nice and cold.
volume down does volume up
volume up does mute
and mute does mode....?
seems very strange for mute to do mode over on the other side. don't think contact cleaner would work

I believe contact cleaner may work, or at least do something. I always thought (correct me if I'm wrong) that the buttons work on resistance, ie when a button is pressed the head unit will see continuity on the circuit with x amount of Ohms resistance. The h/u will then perform the function specific to that resistance. If the contacts are dirty or worn out their resistance could change confusing the h/u.

But how do the whole 3 go out of sync at once?
its like a resistor or something is playing up. Are they wired in series and a resistor between each n the front one stuffs up?

Had all these symptoms - issues dont only occur on the one side. Both sides are all connected to the same wiring harness, and it has to do with resistance. You can try contact cleaner etc., but if it were me, do yourself a favour and buy a brand new pair of buttons from holden. You will fork out more money up front, but it will fix the problem, you wont have to think about it again, and it will be years (if at all) before you have another problem.
