Hi all,
I have fitted the 10psi pulley kit ,1.98 ratio rockers and 69mm throttle body to my VS Statesman and to say the least, I'm slightly disappointed after reading all the excited reviews and comments from guys with similar and even less mods.

Ok so its a slightly wet day and I only gave it a gentle squirt around the street to test but didn't notice any chance from when it was stock. The rockers only felt like they had a bit more off the line in torque but nothing so obvious with the rest. I had it tuned a little to adjust a slight hesitation after fitting the larger throttle body but it idles and picks up nicely again.

So here's my question, although I didn't want to spend any more money on it (typical response by guys who end up building quad turbo, aluminum big block drag cars out of daily drivers...!) I am thinking if I get a custom chip made up to suit my new bolt ons to get the most out of my combination that it may make the difference. Another item that was suggested was the uprated MAF but I left that so far as it definitely needs retuning and specialised chips to suit. Maybe thats an option to get the best results out of this combo?

And this is a further question once, and if, I get a custom chip for the above combo, what size pulley size would I be able to go to and not need to retune/rechip again? This is mainly if I wanted to try, say, a 12psi pulley or whatever and bolt on and go? I'm not sure how small I could go with the same setup plus retain the current smaller s/c belt without going shorter again.
thanks for the help and advice guys, appreciate it
Ben

take the bigger throttle body off you will need a retune to get the benefits. without a tune the auto trans changes gears to early and the shifts are soft and sloppy.

after you take it off reset your ecm by taking the postive battery lead off. then drive around and see if its better, i noticed heaps off difference with the rockers and 10psi pulley.

is there a differant chip to start off with or is it the stock chip? also the injectors?? get a matching set of injectors (28p?) and a dyno tune, for the 500-1000 bucks your car will be running at its full potential.

both the 10psi pulley and roller rockers will only really start to show a noticable difference higher in the rpm range - so wait till you can give it a good drive without wet roads before getting too disappointed.
that said its not going to be a massive difference that will blow your socks off or anything.
getting a tune to suit would be advisable and will probably make the response much better as well as making it safer on the engine with afr's being where they need to be.
the stock maf is fine, untill your pulling upwards of 200rwkw your not going to be maxing it out.
one thing you havent mentioned is whether the exhaust has been changed, if it hasnt that would be something to think about as a good flowing exhaust will help alot with the mods done.

Thanks for all the replies fellas, taking it all on board. I might swap the throttle body back and see if it improves and leave the larger one for after a custom chip perhaps.
And the exhaust is currently the stock Statesman with about 3 mufflers. I'm looking into this, might get cat-back with slightly better flow and eliminate the rear most muffler. I just dont want it to sound like buzzbox, rather have it silent like now!
cheers,
Ben

With the exhaust, a cat back 2 1/2" system like availble on eBay is a good starting point and if you don't want to fork out on a whole system you could replace the rear muffler with a straight through 2 1/2" version.
It's the rear muffler that is the most restrictive then followed by extractors then the rest of the exhaust.
This will allow it breath better and make the most of the pulley and rocker mods.
As mentioned before remove the bigger TB as it's not needed until you get really serious with your mods, intercooler, full dual 2 1/2" exhaust etc.

Cheers SW

Thanks SW,
I'd seen the ebay style exhaust kits but none seem to cater for my model statesman, theres a few types so thought might be just as good to call into an exhaust place and they can fit one same time. I'll check it out though.
cheers
