Petrol here in Saudi Arabia is dirt cheap too :D

Should also be the case here too mate, but Sharia Law isn’t extended to Australia......the very reason why we pay high prices and that fuel company executives and our politicians have both their hands intact.

Where was I.......

VZ Lumina..... Stock
Alloytec 175kw & 4spd Auto
Lukey Air Filter.
235/45/17’s running at 36psi all around.
Penrite Everyday synthetic 5W-50

I’ve owned the car since the beginning of November and have just cranked 10,000km at end of last month.
The total averages end up at 8.63 litres/100km or close to 33 mpg.

These are the averages I’ve had from my records, the city cycles are a bit vague as my driving is roughly 85 - 90% at highway speed.

Highway averages @ 77 - 110km/h..... * 7.9 - 10.3 litres/100km
*Moderately flat ground... weather/wind dependant and about 40% use of PULP 95.
*Best figures achieved between 9pm and 5am.

City (...Country town) averages @ 30 – 50km/h..... *8.8 – 11.4 litres/100km
*as mentioned pretty vague, more so estimations from watching the onboard computer.

VE Omega sedan 3.0 2010
VZ 2005 Executive 3.6 L auto - as basic as they come. Towing a single-axle 8x5 trailer with a large motorbike tied onto that: total load about 550 kg. Carrying a 20 L jerry-can, just in case.

Fuelled up at Wellington, NSW, heading west. Cruise control set on 110. Made it to Wilcannia, that's 610 km according to the odometer, after the "Low Fuel", then "Very Low Fuel" warnings had been sounding for more than an hour. Made it to the servo, and put 72 L in. The bowser attendant (they still exist in places like Wilcannia) remarked that he couldn't recall putting that much in a Commodore before. I later checked the owner's manual, and it would appear that I hadn't had much left. I resume my journey ...

Next morning, I refuel at Port Augusta, heading north; same load. But, I'm tired of this trip, and I want to get home, so I take my chances and set the cruise control on 133. I was planning to take a break at Coober Pedy, 510 km away. Alas ! At 460 km, I conked out. I poured the jerry in; checked my load, etc, and the trusty VZ fired as soon as I turned the key.

So, the increase from 110 to 133 kph cost me a lot of extra fuel - a factor I have borne in mind on all of my subsequent trips.

No secret that ripping along at 110km/h, as many do on freeways, will result in a 20% decay in fuel economy, all for a 5 minute saving at the destination.
Didn't know you could drive at 133km/h through the interior, but I guess there aren't many speed cameras or radar traps up in that area! :)

VZ Adventra LX6 2006 3.6L
vz 2006 Adventra lx6 standard everything.
was getting 11.5L/100km when i picked her up from the previous owners.
after changing the air filter, engine oil, coolant. recalibrating the the computer(telling it how far 10km exactly is).
i pumped tyres to 40psi.
im now getting 10.7L/100km
i still have to replace the fuel filter and spark plugs(iridium are going in)
hoping to achieve 10.00L/100km which would be better than my old vz exec wagon.

Cross 6 Crewman from Newcastle to Cameron Corner via Broken Hill, return via Quilpie, Goondiwindi......4,200km @ avg 70km/h for 9.9l/100. ( trip computer which I find is pretty accurate )
Happy with that, don't really need a diesel Tojo Cruiser.
Next planned trip to Adelaide, and back via the Vic high country.
